Obituary: Edward Lee Ireland

Edward Lee Ireland, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, died May 21, 2017, at Door County Medical Center-Skilled Nursing Facility.  He was born on March 3, 1943, in Oskaloosa, IA to George and Meta (Ankeney) Ireland.  On February 12, 1977, he married Margo Purdy in Madison.

Ed and his wife Margo, owned and operated the Kentucky Fried Chicken for nearly 20 years.  He was a past member of the Optimist Club, various city committees, and the Sturgeon Bay City Council.  Ed loved to ride his scooter with his McDonald’s coffee group.  He also enjoyed golf, cooking, boating and sailing, the Chicago Cubs, and loved to tinker with everything.

Survivors include his wife, Margo, Sturgeon Bay; two sons, Jeffrey (Wendelin Lockett) Funnell, Cedarburg; Tim Funnell, Fort Worth, TX; 5 grandchildren, Austin, Noah, Conner, and Cayla Funnell, and Hannah Kendzor; one sister, Pat Uitermark, Mesa, AZ; one sister-in-law, Karin Smith, Alpine, CA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joan Vint; one brother, Dennis Ireland.

Memorial services will be at 11 am on Friday June 30, 2017, at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Reeder Herrick officiating.  Inurnment will be in Shiloh Moravian Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm on Thursday June 29, 2017, at the Forbes Funeral Home and from 10 am until the time of services at the church on Friday.
