Obituary: Eileen Hunziker Bohn

Eileen Hunziker Bohn, 80, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully in the presence of her family, Friday morning, June 17, 2016 at Pine Crest Village. She had been coping with lung cancer the last two years.

She was born Eileen Adela Hunziker on July 9, 1935 in Merrill to Leonard Randolph Hunziker and Adela Wilhemina (Klebenow) Hunziker. She graduated from Merrill High School and went on to study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Speech Pathology. Eileen married Rodney “Rod” Charles Bohn on graduation day at college, June 21, 1957. They shared over 58 years of marriage together. Rod preceded Eileen in death on September 17, 2015.

She practiced her profession in Sauk County, where she was the county’s first speech therapist, and in Door County, where she was employed by the Southern Door School District for many years.

Eileen’s loves were her husband, her children, and their families. She enjoyed reading, swimming, bicycling, and the outdoors. Eileen was one of the founding members of the League of Women Voters of Door County and an active member for over fifty years.

She is survived by her three sons, Marc (Caroline Fenn) Bohn of Portland, OR (and their children, Calvin, Nate, and Ella), Nels (Ann Reichlin) Bohn of Ithaca, NY (and their children, Simon and Eva), Peter (Nina Cohen-Bohn) Bohn of London, England (and their children, Dexter and Coleman); sister, Barb Sukow of Greenville; and two nieces, Sandy Hunziker of Greenville and Lark Sukow of Phillips.

Elieen was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Hunziker.

A memorial service honoring Eileen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Hope United Church of Christ, 141 S. 12th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Rev. Richard Feyen officiating.

Family and friends may visit at Hope Church on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given in Eileen’s memory to the Door County Library or the charity of your choice.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to the entire Pine Crest staff for the compassionate care provided over the past nine months.
