Obituary: Elaine Irma (Mengel) Roalkvan

April 15, 1930 ~ May 30, 2021

Elaine Irma Roalkvan, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Door County Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1930 in Milwaukee to the late Louis Mengel Jr. and Gertrude Louise (Patzer) Mengel, was raised in the Milwaukee area, and graduated from Shorewood High School. On November 1, 1952, Elaine and Robert “Bud” Henry Roalkvan were united in marriage at Pentecost Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The two owned and operated Roalkvan the Floorman, where Elaine was the secretary and bookkeeper. In their retirement, they moved to their summer home in Door County. They were active members of Hainesville Lutheran Church. The two were wed for 58 years before Bud preceded her in death on June 28, 2011. Elaine devoted much of her talents and time making quilts and crafts for the church. She was a member of Door County Quilters, Order of the Eastern Star Honor Chapter #1, and Red Hatters.

Elaine will be missed by her children, Debra (Al) Labermeier, Jane (George) Roalkvan-Sincock, Roberta Roalkvan, Todd (Teresa) Roalkvan, and Lars (Donna) Roalkvan; grandchildren, Kristina (Scott) Schuenke, Joseph (Laura) Labermeier, Erica (Greg) Schueller, Matthew Schulz, Rachel (TJ) Kriska, Benjamin Baumann, Kimberly Roalkvan, Amber Roalkvan, Drew (Jennie) Roalkvan, and Lauren Roalkvan; step-grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Wolak, Jacob (Alyssa) Sincock, Benjamin (Paige) Sincock, Jaymes Gayhart, and Elizabeth Gayhart; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and CiCi Schuenke, Jack and Henry Labermeier, Everett Schueller, Grace and Grant Wolak, Norah and Zeke Sincock, Rose Lynn and Marie Kriska, Gabriel McClure, and Lincoln and Jackson Roalkvan; a niece and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Louis Mengel Jr.; husband, Bud Roalkvan; and two sisters, Margarite Mengel and Alice (Al) Loper.

Elaine’s life will be honored with a memorial service at Hainesville Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Trent Zeitler officiating. For those in attendance, masks and social distancing are mandatory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to Hainesville Lutheran Church, Shriner’s Hospital, or Order of the Eastern Star Honor #1.

Elaine’s family wishes to thank the Door County Medical Center ICU RNs, Amy and Jamie, and Dr. Marc Binard for all the compassionate care and comfort shown towards Elaine and the entire family.
