Obituary: Elaine L. Bonville

Sept. 28, 1932 – Nov. 30, 2019

Elaine L. Bonville, 87, a longtime resident of Fish Creek, died at Good Samaritan – Scandia Village in Sister Bay.

Elaine was born in Baileys Harbor to Henry and Minnie (Lang) Schultz. She graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1950.

On Dec. 21, 1952, she married Glenn Bonville at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor. He died in 1984.

For many years, Elaine and Glenn owned and operated BonVilla Cottages in Fish Creek. They sold the water-side cottages in 1979 due to Glenn’s failing health and moved to the house at the top of the hill.

Elaine was never one to be idle. She enjoyed maintaining her home, cutting her grass, tending to her flowers and working during the summer months at various area businesses. She was strong-willed and independent and had a genuine care and concern for others.

Elaine was a longtime member of Fish Creek Community Church, where she served on various committees and for more than 50 years and assisted in preparing communion for church services.

Elaine is survived by her children, Keith (Sharon Anderson) of Baileys Harbor, and Kathleen (James Thiel) of Franklin, Wisconsin, and Fish Creek; two grandchildren, Jesse (Jessica Manson) of Baileys Harbor, and Lynsey Thiel Fontes (Ernest) of San Diego, California; step grandchildren, Douglas Thiel (Carol) of South Lake, Texas, and Melanie Thiel of Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Schultz; sister, Eleanor Woerfel; husband; and other dear relatives and friends.

A service in remembrance and celebration of Elaine’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 am, at the Community Church of Fish Creek, 9420 Cottage Row in Fish Creek. A visitation will precede, 10-11 am, at the church.

The family thanks the entire staff at Scandia for the compassionate care they gave to Elaine and extends its sincere appreciation to all who visited or remembered here in some way during her years at Scandia.

Memorials may be given in Elaine’s memory to Community Church of Fish Creek or Feed and Clothe My People of Door County.
