Obituary:  Elizabeth ‘Ellie’ Mary Helm

Elizabeth “Ellie” Mary Helm was born June 18, 1996, and died Sept. 29, 2017, as a result of a tragic ATV accident.

She is the daughter of Don and Polly Helm of Fish Creek and the sister of Hannah Helm. In addition, she is survived by her grandparents Donald and Cozy Helm of Fish Creek, and Joan Robinson of Richmond, Kentucky; Aunts Amy Johnson (Scott) of Lexington, Kentucky, Susan Helm-Murtagh (Rory) of Boulder, Colorado, Aunt and Godmother Mary Jo Helm of Fish Creek; cousins Wiles and Sarah Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; numerous step-aunts and cousins; the Palmer Family of Nashville Tennessee; special aunts and uncles Bill and Jan Lorenz of Lake Forest, John and Susan Schaper of Fish Creek and Susan Nied and John Brandstetter of Libertyville; Piper and Pat Mehigan of Whitefish Bay; and special friend Justin Krause of Fish Creek and her cat Benson. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Dr. Thomas D. Myers (Bettye) of Richmond, Kentucky and Dr. Phillip Robinson of Richmond, Kentucky.

Ellie was a 2014 graduate of Gibraltar High School and a student at North Dakota State University. At Gibraltar she played volleyball, basketball, softball and ran track. She was also involved in theater, but her passion was gymnastics, and she was a member of the YMCA Strivers gymnastics team for 10 years, competing on the state and national levels.

At NDSU she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and an NDSU cheerleader.

Ellie had a zest for life and a radiant smile that would light up the room. She will be deeply missed by friends and family. We are so grateful for the twenty-one years God shared her with us, and our faith assures us we will see her again.

A visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 5 from 10 am until 1 pm at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay, with a memorial service at 1 pm followed by a fellowship. Private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in memory of Ellie Helm, which will be given to Ellie’s favorite charities.
