Elizabeth Marie Hahn, 85, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, December 24, 2015, at Golden Living Center-Dorchester after suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease for years.
She was born November 9, 1930, in Campbellsport, the daughter of the late Earl and Wilhelmina (Reschke) Jacky. Following her high school education, Betty earned her LPN certification from Marian College in Fond du Lac. She worked for St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for 22 years until her retirement. Betty married Frederick Earl Sabel in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1962. Betty married Henry Hahn in 1976. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Betty was a brave and resilient woman who stayed strong her in her faith even as she raised three children on her own while working and attending school, then working full-time as an LPN. She will be remembered for being a happy person who enjoyed good conversation, telling stories, and singing. Betty was a generous person who enjoyed memberships in the Friends of the Door County Library, Christian Women’s Club, MOPS, and was a reading buddy at schools in both, Fond du Lac and Sturgeon Bay. She was a member of Sturgeon Bay Community Church. Betty loved playing scrabble, putting together jigsaw puzzles, collecting teapots, and feeding squirrels.
She is survived by her two children, Joseph Sabel of Boulder, CO, Margaret Magle of Sturgeon Bay; brother, Norman Jacky of California; and three nephews, Mitchell, Jonathan, and Lee Jacky.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and her son, Stanley Sabel (2003).
A memorial service honoring Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Shannon Souther of Sturgeon Bay Community Church, officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday morning, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Estherbrook Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for the Third Avenue Playhouse or the Friends of the Libraries.
