Obituary: Elwood “Boots” V. Crofoot, Jr.

September 29, 1936 ~ October 19, 2022

Elwood “Boots” Vance Demont Crofoot, Jr., 86, formerly of the Town of Egg Harbor, WI and Elk Grove Village, IL, died Friday morning, October 21, 2022at Angel’s Touch Assisted Living in the Town of Ledgeview, WI where he had resided the past three years.

He was born September 29, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Elwood V. and Bernice O. (Birkholz) Crofoot, Sr. Elwood graduated from Palatine Township High School in Illinois with the class of 1954. He served his country with the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Elwood married Carol Lynne Ramsey on May 25, 1963 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palatine. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps Reserves with the rank of Corporal on June 23, 1963.

Elwood attended Winona School of Photography in Winona Lake, IN and the New York Institute of Photography. He owned and operated “Boots” Photography Studio in Park Ridge, IL, offering wedding photography in addition to capturing anything else that caught his eye. Elwood was a partner in Crofoot, Nielsen& Co., a printing company on the north side of Chicago, IL. He worked as a service technician for Enco Printing in Chicago for many years before retirement.

Elwood taught adult education at Maine East High School in Park Ridge. He was a scout master for Troop 25 and a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, both in Illinois. Elwood and Carol retired to Door County in January 1995. They shared nearly 59 years of marriage. Carol passed away at home on April 28, 2022. Elwood moved into Angel’s Touch Assisted Living in the Town of Ledgeview in 2019.

He was an avid outdoorsman who liked to go boating, motor homing, and snowmobiling. Elwood enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, to Bangs Lake in Wauconda, IL and to Hawaii (where he celebrated his 50th birthday), just to name a few places.

Elwood is survived by his son, David (Suzanne) Crofoot of Village of Lakewood, IL [and their daughter, Allison Kate], daughter, Lynn Crofoot of the Town of Egg Harbor, WI, and Michael Crofoot [Karen Anita Mitch] of Bolingbrook, IL

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister-in-law, Shirley (Russell Harold) Johnson; and other relatives.

Arrangements are pending for Elwood’s military service to be honored with military honors by the United Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League Door Peninsula Detachment 1130 – to be announced.

Memorials may be given in his name for the Wisconsin Humane Society-Door County Campus (3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).
