Obituary: Emily Mathilda Ploor

Emily Mathilda PloorEmily Mathilda Ploor, 100 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Cardinal Ridge CBRF.

She was born August 14, 1915, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late August and Lydia (Diefenbach) Wilke. Emily graduated from Sevastopol High School. On September 11, 1934, she married Aloysius “Bud” A. Ploor at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church parsonage in Egg Harbor. Together, they owned and operated their dairy farm while raising their three sons, Ronald, David and Daniel. Bud preceded Emily in death on June 25, 1991. Emily worked for Sevastopol High School as cook for nearly 20 years until her retirement in 1975.

She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Institute and its Altar Society. Emily was known around her community for being a great seamstress and operated her own business where she would make dresses for all occasions, and even suits for men. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and card group especially sheepshead and bridge.

Emily is survived by her three sons, Ronald (Jeanne) Ploor of Sturgeon Bay, David (Yolanda) Ploor of Albuquerque, NM, Daniel (Helen) Ploor of Sturgeon Bay; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Evelyn Ploor and Jeanette Mann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Lydia Wilke; husband, Bud Ploor; two brothers, Melvin and Harold Wilke; and three sisters, Adeline Arbter, Mable Sternard, and Lucille Nelson.

RESCHEDULED FUNERAL MASS DUE TO WEATHER: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on WEDNESDAY, December 30, 2015, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends called from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2015, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay.

The closing parish wake service scheduled for 7:45 p.m., Monday evening, at the funeral home, was cancelled due to the weather.

RESCHEDULED VISITATION DUE TO WEATHER: Visitation will continue at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute, WEDNESDAY MORNING, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials may be given in Emily’s memory for Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
