Obituary: Emmett Dale Shemanek

January 5, 1944 ~ June 1, 2023

Emmett Dale Shemanek, age 79 of Fish Creek, WI and Anthem, AZ died peacefully on June 1, 2023, just before he was going to take a car ride to Peninsula State Park. He was born on January 5, 1944, to the late August and Lucille Shemanek in Madison, WI. He graduated from Black Earth High School and continued his education at Madison Vocational School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Emmett was united in marriage to Kathleen Olson, his high school sweetheart, on June 11, 1966. They were married 57 years. He worked at Graber MFG in Middleton and at Coca Cola Bottling CO., as a vending manager for many years. He also owned Sak’s Liquor in Middleton. He finished his working years at the Verona Clinic. Emmett was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Juddville, WI, where he sang in the choir for many years, as well as being an active volunteer in Door County. Emmett loved his family, especially his two granddaughters, Sophia and Alexis, who he adored. He especially enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing cards and attending sporting events with the girls in which they participated.

Emmett is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his son, Gregory Dale (Michelle) Shemanek; granddaughters, Sophia and Alexis; one brother, Leroy (Nancy) Shemanek; sisters-in-law, Nancee Brunner, Dianne Liljenberg, and Susan Esser; and brothers-in-law, Andrew (Shelly) Olson and David Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lucille Shemanek, brothers-in-law, Ralph Olson, Bill Brunner and Rob Liljenberg.

The family of Emmett would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Frank Kauzlarich, the Door County Sheriff’s Department, EMT’s, Door County Medical Examiner Office and Huehns Funeral Home for their prayers and kindness during this time.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Juddville, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC in Sturgeon Bay are assisting the Shemanek family.
