Obituary: Eric Michael Benson

Eric Michael Benson, 34, of Fort Myers, FL. died unexpectedly on February 26, 2021 due to complications of heart surgery.

Eric is survived by his son, Christopher Rice-Benson, Christopher’s mother Ashley(Brandon) Grant, his fiance Sheila Withey, his mother Joyce Hermsen Benson(Thomas Hammer), father William Benson, step mother Mary Benson, brothers Alexander(Lillian) Benson and Samuel Benson.  Also survived by his step siblings Ryan (Tracy) Chernick, Ben Chernick, Katie (Lee) Van Rite, Thomas Jr. (Natalie) Hammer, Tracey Hammer, and Grandmother Kyleen Benson.  Eric will also be deeply missed by aunts, uncles as well as countless other friends and extended family.

Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grand-parents James and Evelyn Hermsen, his aunt Barbara Panetti, and his niece Reagan Elizabeth Bishop.  Also preceded by his paternal grandparents Pete and Sally Petersen, George Benson, and his uncle Steven Benson. 

Eric was a humorous, loving son, father, and friend to many.  Although his time on earth was short, he lived every moment to the absolute fullest.  He was a free spirit that would never pass up a tree swing or a chance to bring a smile to anyone’s face.  He would also want us to stop dragging this obituary out and go have some fun.  So with that being said, thank you Eric for bringing so much love, laughter, and adventure to all of our lives.  You will be missed immensely.  We will celebrate your life when the time is safe for all.
