Obituary: Eva L. Erskine

Eva L. Erskine, 86, formerly of Egg Harbor, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.

She was born January 12, 1932 in Marinette, the daughter of the late George and Anna (Demmin) Kusch. Eva graduated valedictorian of her Gibraltar High School graduating class. She lived in the Egg Harbor area most of her life.

Eva’s home and huge garden was located at Sunny Point in the Town of Egg Harbor. For many years, Eva was the school cook at Egg Harbor’s two-room schoolhouse. During the summers, she cooked at various restaurants in the area: Casey’s, Village Café, Murphy Moore’s, and picked cherries and apples at local orchards with lots of ritual nights at the fruit processing and canning factories. Eva also worked for Eleanor Pelton at her hotel in Egg Harbor.

Eva was well known for her immense garden and canning skills of the garden’s vegetables. She was a skilled knitter, particularly with fisherman knit and various complex cable designs. One year, Eva knitted over 100 mittens for the giving tree during Christmas time. Her grandchildren will always remember her cookie jar being filled during their visits. Eva was a devoted Girl Scout leader who took all her planning and meetings very seriously as she did for everything that she was part of.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor where she was confirmed, married, taught Sunday School, and where her children were baptized.

Eva’s love will live on in the hearts of her two children, Loren (Robert) Scholl of Egg Harbor and Dwight Erskine of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Frank (Jill) Scholl of Eau Claire and Heather Scholl of Green Bay; and four great-grandchildren, Zack, Molly, Katie, and Tyler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna Kusch; infant son, Christian; and sister, Lorraine Parins.

Eva’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor with Rev. Michael Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Egg Harbor Town Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given in Eva’s memory to HELP of Door County.

Life was not easy for Eva, and many times, was very difficult. Eva’s wish was to be remembered at her best days – hardworking, intelligent, and as the creative person she was.
