Obituary: Evelyn Rita (Massart) Havel

April 8, 1939 – Sept. 7, 2021

Evelyn Rita (Massart) Havel, 82, of Sturgeon Bay, died at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

She was born on the family farm in Rosiere to Louie and Agnes (Stache) Massart. Evelyn graduated from Casco High School in 1956. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jerome Joseph Havel. They were married June 7, 1958, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Rosiere.

Evelyn worked at Piggly Wiggly as the produce manager, Pick ’n Save at the courtesy counter, and at C & S Manufacturing as a machinist. Evelyn and Jerome were members of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood. They enjoyed camping, boating and taking bus trips together. Evelyn also loved word-search and jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Jerome; children, Julie (Joseph) Trinkner and Terry (Vickie) Havel; grandchildren, Joshua Bordeau, Nicholas (Taylor) Havel, Matthew (Hanna) Bordeau, and Nathan Havel (special friend, Taylor Frando); great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Ash, Ross Havel, Brantley Havel, Vernon Havel, and Ren Bordeau; sisters-in-law, Joyce LaCrosse and JoAnn Havel; brother-in-law, Wayne Hafeman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Agnes Massart; brother, Harvey (Peggy) Massart; brothers-in-law, Bob Havel and Dale LaCrosse; and sister-in-law, Priscilla Hafeman.

Evelyn’s life will be honored with a private mass of Christian burial at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
