Obituary: Florence Podraza

Florence Podraza, 92 of Baileys Harbor, WI died at Good Samaritan Scandia Village on March 31, 2017. She was born in Chicago, IL on July 5, 1924 to Stanley and Antoinette (Baron) Zaucha.

Born of immigrant parents and raised in the great depression she worked at several jobs while making a home for her husband and raising three sons. During World War II she volunteered at a hospital helping veterans.

Flo and Ted were married on June 23, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD, where Ted was training for the 8th Air Force. After the war they moved back to Chicago.

When their sons were grown, she and Ted moved to Pleasant Prairie in southern Wisconsin. She worked at Abbott Laboratories until she retired, much to the dismay of her bosses, who thought very highly of her work.

Continuing their migration north, they moved to Baileys Harbor. Where she and Ted were active in the church and veterans affairs.

She is survived by her sisters, Rose Danis and Wanda ( James ) Luisi; her three sons, Robert ( Eloise ), James (Elaine ) and Thomas (Coey ) Podraza; one grandson, three granddaughters, four great grandsons, three great granddaughters, five nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Podraza and sisters-in-law, Bernice Sadin and Helen Dzeglewicz.

Funeral Mass will be held at Stella Maris Parish – Baileys Harbor Site on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation at the Church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass on Friday. The Rev. David Ruby officiating.

Interment will be at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery in Baileys Harbor.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Stella Maris Parish in her memory.
