Obituary: Gail Linnie Stone

Gail Linnie Stone, 83 years old, of Sturgeon Bay died May 16, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center in Green Bay. She was born April 16, 1940 in Fitchburg Massachusetts to George and Lillian (Lahti) Thatcher. She graduated from Fitchburg High School. She married Melvin Stone on July 5, 1958 at Beth Eden Baptist Church. Shortly after marriage, Melvin and Gail moved to the Midwest where they raised their three children: Tammy Stone of Menominee Michigan, Art (Robin) Stone of Graham Washington and Linda (James) Winter of Algoma Wisconsin. Gail had 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She had many jobs throughout her life including factory work, dairy farming and being a nursing assistant. Gail was a friendly person who made easy conversation with strangers and friends alike. She was a devout Christian, most recently attending Friends Community Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Gail is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers George and Jerry, sisters Janet and Darlene, special friend Dora, special friend Mae and dog friend Molly.

Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, who died in 2005. Special thanks to Dora for looking after Gail every day. Special thanks to Pastor Nancy and Gail’s friends at Friends Church. Gail spent some of her happiest years in Sturgeon Bay and was grateful to the entire community.

A memorial service to celebrate Gail’s life will be held on May 31st at Friends Community Church in Sturgeon Bay. Visitation will be 10 am, service at 11 am and lunch to follow. If you are interested in making a donation in memory of Gail, her favorite charities included Friends Community Church and animal shelters.
