Obituary: Glenn G. Olson

Nov. 30, 1937 – June 2, 2019

Glenn G. Olson, 81 (and a half), of Fish Creek died at the Door County Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Harry and Vera (Lundgren) Olson. After graduating from Oconomowoc High School in 1956, Glenn worked as a production manager for the Daily Herald in Chicago. At the age of 50, he attended Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, and achieved his baking degree.

Glenn and his first wife, Deanna Rolfs (who preceded him in death in 1996), moved to Door County in 1992 and bought the Country Walk Bake Shop, which Glenn owned and operated until his retirement. He was proud to be able to use the cherries and apples out of his own orchard. After selling the bake shop, Glenn sold his famous baked goods in Main Street Market, Ray’s Cherry Hut (now White Cottage Red Door) and Wood Orchard Market.

He married Judy A. (Christianson) Hartl at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay on November 4, 2000. Together, they enjoyed traveling with their friends, the occasional trip to the casino and spending time with their five-couple dinner group. They attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Juddville and St. Peters Lutheran Church.

Glenn enjoyed watching the Packers, golfing, fishing and being a member of the Egg Harbor Lions Club. He relished in baking his scrumptious cherry pies and cherry strudels for his grandchildren while listening to the activities they were partaking in.

Glenn will be missed by his loving wife, Judy; daughters, Dawn Cashman and Jennifer (Craig) Hunter; stepchildren, Brian (Kathy) Hartl, Ricky (Gina) Hartl, Mark Hartl, and Colleen (Chris) DeGrave; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Maliszewski and Ben (Brittany) Cashman, Sawyer, Izack, Eli, and Liam Olson, Wesley, Jacob, and Peter Hunter, Bryce Hartl, and Tanner and Hailey DeGrave; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Josephine Maliszewski; sister, Lynn Hill; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Vera Olson; wife Deanna Olson; and son, Greg Olson.

Glenn’s life will be honored with a memorial service at 6 pm on Friday, June 7, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Gary Scharrig officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Juddville on Monday June 10, at 3:30 pm.

Visitation will be held 3-6 pm at the funeral home.

“Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Richard Hogan and the ICU staff at the Door County Medical Center, Pastor Gary Scharrig, Yvonne Boettcher, Judy’s family, and our close friends for your love and support during this difficult time.”
