Obituary: Gregory Smith Thalin

1945 ~ 2022

Gregory Smith Thalin was a man of few words, hardworking, and full of purpose. He was loving and kind with an extraordinary sharp wit and wry sense of humor.

A master mechanic, who by the age of 15, had completely rebuilt the transmission of the family car. Always humble about his abilities, he could fix nearly everything, and earned his living keeping the engines tuned of the neighborhood lawn mowers to the massive earth movers used in laying the aqueducts of Utah, even to fixing the coffee every morning at his local BP in Fish Creek.

Fiercely loyal and caring, he was always there with a helping hand as he tried to disguise his big sensitive heart within a gruff tough exterior that anyone close could see through in a heartbeat.

Greg was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam conflict as a Platoon Leader and Tank Commander.

After a long battle with cancer, he faced his death and final transition with the same quiet, humble, determination – welcoming his soul’s reunion through God’s hands with his parents and family who preceded him.

Casperson Funeral Home is assisting the family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Greg may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.caspersonfuneralhome.com.
