Obituary: Hans Adolf Sawitzki

December 1, 1934 ~ April 12, 2023

Hans Adolf Sawitzki, age 88 of Sturgeon Bay, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.  He was born on December 1, 1934, to the late Johannes and Auguste (Bocian) in Prussia.  He attended grade school in Eitorf, Germany and continued trade school in Köln, Germany where he graduated as a baker and pastry chef.  He and his family immigrated from Germany to Chicago, IL in 1955.  Hans was united in marriage to Ceres Kätchen Vogt on August 22, 1959, at Tabor Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. 

The couple spent 40 years vacationing at Gills Rock, where they built their dream home.  Hans was a great craftsman and known as an engineer without a degree.  At the age of 79, he built his garage with nothing but two ladders and a come along.  The inspector was impressed by the construction, stating the garage will never come down.  Hans is known for being an honest man.  He is the type of man who was very respectful, giving and always willing to help out anyone in need. 

Hans is survived by:  his wife, Ceres, his children, Peggy (Michael) Parry and Norbert (fiancé, Beverly Green) Sawitzki, and nieces, Margot (Hans) Lagle and Gabrilla Winter.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, one sister, Kate Schüller, one brother, Kurt Sawitzki and sister-in-law, Ingred Fryc.

A funeral service will be held for Hans on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Hainesville Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, with Rev. Mary Lou Plummer officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will take place immediately following service at Hainesville Cemetery.
