Obituary: Harry Clark Maher

Harry Clark Maher, 88, died at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay. He grew up in Winnetka, Ill. and graduated from New Trier High School in 1947. He went to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business. Harry served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an ace rifle instructor at Fort Benning, Georgia. On Dec. 10, 1955, Harry married Kaye McLatchie, his greatest gift and best friend. Harry and Kaye moved to Door County in 1985. Harry worked as a real estate agent and appraiser but his favorite activities were the monthly potluck gatherings with great new friends that endured for 26 years and his tutoring work with Conversation Partners, teaching English to a Spanish-speaking student. Donations may be given in Harry’s memory to Ephraim Moravian Church, PO Box 73, Ephraim, WI 54211. A memorial service will be held Sept. 16, 11 am at Ephraim Moravian Church, 9970 Moravia St., Ephraim.
