Obituary: James Baux

December 31, 1941 ~ January 15, 2022

James Joseph Baux, 80, of Sturgeon Bay, died at home on Jan. 15, 2022.  He was born Dec. 31, 1941 in Chicago to Joseph and Clara (Rubel) Baux.

James married the love of his life, Nancy Clark, on Sept. 7, 1975 at Big Woods Congregational Church in Warrenville, IL.  They moved to Door County in 1984 to pursue his career in fine art and became one of Door County’s premier artists.  He became the Door County Art League’s first president in 1987 and designed the League’s logo.

James’s formal studies included both commercial and fine art at the School of Design, Ray-Vogue, in Chicago, IL the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn IL, the Chicago Art Institute, and international designer J.W. Huber.

The essence of one of James’s favorite quotes by William Blake is reflected in his artwork: “To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour”.

James is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Nancy.
