Obituary: James “Digger” DeGroot

James Ross DeGroot – “Digger” to those who knew him, “The Mayor of Fish Creek,” and also known (by a few) by his aliases, “Howard Suamico” and “Al Goma” – died after a long illness at the age of 72.

Digger’s family will honor his life with a memorial service Sunday, Feb. 9, 2:30 pm, at Alexander’s of Door County, 3667 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, with Chaplain John Hauser officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with Digger’s family at Alexander’s on Feb. 9, 2-2:20 pm, and after the service until 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Digger DeGroot Memorial Fund (at Nicolet Bank, 9405 Hwy 42, Fish Creek, WI 54212) to help support the Noble House Gazebo Fund.
