Obituary: James Frances Jauquet

James Frances Jauquet, 77, died quietly Nov. 23, 2017, at his home in Fish Creek with his wife at his side. Jim was born Dec. 25, 1939, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Ervin and Alice (Rentmeester) Jauquet. He attended Premontre High School in Green Bay and apprenticed with architect Robert Takaichi. After graduation he worked for Hudson Manufacturing doing design work. Later in his working career, Jim drove 28 years for Schneider Transport garnering more than 2,500,000 miles.

His introduction to sailing began by delivering “Shasta” for Bob Deutch, and eventually “crewing” on the 34’ boat in the Chicago Mac races. This love for sailing resulted in he and his wife, Andrea purchasing a 36’ Cabot sailboat. After outfitting “Krakjen” for an ocean passage, the two set sail from Fish Creek in 1986. The fall sail took them through the Great Lakes, down the intercoastal waterway to the Bahamas where they wintered and waited for good weather for a crossing. In 1987 they sailed to Bermuda, then Bermuda to the Azores, and finally made landfall in Lagos, Portugal. They spent the next 13 summers sailing the Mediterranean as far east as Turkey.

When he retired to Fish Creek Jim became involved in his community serving on the Planning Committee and the Gibraltar Town Board. He continued his service volunteering for the Red Cross, serving on the board of the Ridges Sanctuary and heading up the “Wednesday Crew”, serving on the building committee of Northern Sky, and continued service to many other organizations. Jim remained an active member of Stella Maris Catholic Church until he became too ill to serve.

Jim is survived by his wife, Andrea, and sons Jeff and Carol, Tucson, AZ, Marti and Lauren, Australia, Dan and Teresa, De Pere, WI, Dominic and Kari, Tempe AZ, Pat and Ilene , Sussex, WI, and Jonathan, Minneapolis, MN. In addition, Jim has 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and is survived by all of his siblings, and many of his extended family.   Jim’s parents, Ervin and Alice, and his son Robert preceded him in death.
