Obituary: Janet F. Peterson

October 17, 1923 ~ January 17, 2022

Janet F. Peterson, 98 years of Sturgeon Bay, died early Monday morning, January 17, 2022 at Door County Medical Center.

She was born October 17, 1923, the daughter of the late Robert F. and Lillian J. B. (Sperber) Miller, on the Miller family farm in East Maplewood. There she was raised along with her nine siblings. Following her graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School, she married Eli Peterson, Sr. on December 26, 1942. Together they traveled while Eli was in the military and were stationed in California and Florida. Upon returning to Sturgeon Bay, Janet worked at Amity Leather until starting their family, and settled down in the “red brick house”. They then built their home a block away where Janet was currently living.

Janet was a lifetime member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church and continued to watch her great-grandchildren grow up in that same church. She loved holiday traditions and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandkids. She enjoyed baking, reading, listening to old time country music, going on family vacations, and weekly supper nights with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed keeping up to date on current events and the schedules of her family. She was strong willed and determined, taking pride in independently living on her own at the age of 98.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Claflin; daughter-in-law, Debbie Peterson; grandchildren, Casie (Mike) Frangipane of Sturgeon Bay, Courtney (Chris) Granius of Algoma, Shauna (JR Stoffel) Peterson of Kewaskum, Lindsay (Cody) DeMeuse of Sturgeon Bay; great-grandchildren, Cole and Cora Frangipane, Callen and Camryn Granius, and Aria Stoffel (brother Liam).

Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Lillian Miller; husband, Eli Sr.; son, Eli Jr.; son-in-law, Wayne Claflin; nine siblings and their spouses, Milton (Ida) Miller, Elmer (Lila) Miller, Emil (Ruby) Miller, Marvin (Emilie) Miller, Ida (Carl) Mistlebauer, Linda (Kenneth) Sorenson, Amanda (Dewey) Maples, Betty (Herbert) Brauer, and Helen Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp officiating. Private burial service will follow at Bayside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.
