Obituary: Jerry D. Slavik

July 23, 1928 ~ January 23, 2021

Jerry D. Slavik, 92, of Sturgeon Bay died peacefully at Sturgeon Bay Health Services after a short illness.

Jerry was born in Sturgeon Bay to Vincent and Mayme (Gauthier) Slavik on July 23, 1928. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School, and from the University of WI-Madison with a degree in civil engineering. He married Patricia R. Reynolds in Sturgeon Bay in 1950 and together they raised 3 children.

Jerry worked for Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Ohio for 2 years after college, before returning to his hometown in Door County and becoming Sturgeon Bay’s City Engineer in 1952 and worked there until his retirement in 1991. He was a licensed professional engineer and surveyor, a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineering, a member of the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, the NRA and the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. Jerry was also a member of various Door County golf leagues over the years and a charter member of Door County’s first motorcycle club, The Cherryland Vagabonds, formed in the late 1940s. In retirement he enjoyed time with family, playing golf, hunting, WDOR trivia, and the Green Bay Packers. He will be remembered as being quick-witted, honest and optimistic, even-keeled, kind and wise.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, who died on December 26, 2019. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Slavik, Kim Jacobs, and Todd (Angel) Slavik; grandchildren, Christopher Slavik, Stephanie Slavik (Dylan Lauger), Nate Jacobs, Adam (Maria) Jacobs, and Madison, Mikenna and Patrick Slavik; great-grandchildren, Mila Jacobs, and twins Ellison and Keaton Slavik Lauger.

A private family service and celebration of both Jerry’s and Patricia’s lives will be held at a later time.
