Obituary: Joan Lorine Hodson

Joan Lorine Hodson, 94, of Baileys Harbor, WI, formerly of Mt. Prospect, IL, died Wednesday evening, May 25, 2016 at Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, WI.

She was born July 21, 1921 in Burlington, CO, the daughter of Lloyd Raymond McWilliams and Anna Belle (Kaiser) McWilliams. Joan graduated from Palmyra High School in Nebraska. On December 25, 1938, she married Francis “Bob” Willard Hodson in Palmyra. They shared over 65 years of marriage. Bob preceded Joan in death on June 28, 2004.

Joan was employed with Marshall Field and Company in Skokie, IL, for many years where she worked as a sales associate and department manager.

Joan was baptized as an ordained minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 28, 1989.  In her later years, she shared her faith in Jehovah’s promises of the resurrection to come and the future earthly paradise by writing personal letters to individuals in the community.  She was an inspiration to all members of her congregation.

She was an eternal optimist and a gracious listener who always had a kind word and smile for everyone.  While she had a fondness for good cooking, chocolate, ice cream and cookies; her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, were her constant joy.

She is survived by her son, Gary (Karen) Hodson of Bonner Springs, KS; daughter, Suzanne (Stephen) Seyfer of Fish Creek, WI; three grandchildren – Michael (Heather) Seyfer of Duluth, MN, Matthew (Denise) Seyfer of Thiensville, WI, Anna (Juan Jimenez Arellano) Seyfer of Sturgeon Bay, and three step-grandchildren – James (Doris) Kopitke of Euless, TX, Don (Lisa) Kopitke of Lenexa, KS, Bonnie (Dana) Farmer of Overland Park, KS; and, sixteen great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband; and, nephew Wayne (Pat) Hodson.

A private burial will be in Blossomburg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek. Friends are invited to visit with the family between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sturgeon Bay. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., June 22, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall followed by a reception at the Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay.

Memorials may be given in Joan’s memory to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.
