Obituary: Joanne (Lettie) Helen Peil

October 5, 1947 – May 12, 2021

Joanne Helen (Lettie) Peil, of the Town of Baileys Harbor, died the early morning of Wednesday May 12th, 2021.  Surrounded by her loving husband (Dwaine), children and grandchildren at St Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee WI after a short illness.

She was born Joanne Helen Lettie on October 5th, 1947 to the late Floyd W and Helen E (Tanck) Lettie.  She attended Wildwood Grade School, and graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1966. Joanne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor Wi.

On April 1st, 1967, she married the love of her life Dwaine J. Peil at Zion Lutheran Church in Sister Bay.

Joanne was a stay-at-home mom while raising 3 beautiful children. As those children grew Joanne decided it was time to get out of the home.  Working for the Baileys Harbor School as a janitor for many years she was able to still watch over her children.  When the school merged with the now Gibraltar Area School district, she went to work for Ephraim Shore, the Door Reminder and then Cadence Manufacturing in Sturgeon Bay where she retired in 2015.  During her career she made many lifelong friendships that she treasured each day.

Joanne’s greatest joy was being a grandmother to 5 beautiful grandchildren.  She cherished her faith and for over 25 years educated the minds of the youth at Immanuel Lutheran.  She enjoyed playing baseball in her younger days, as well as bowling, going on vacations with family, circle the word books, cooking, and playing solitary.  She always enjoyed the 20-year tradition of annual shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Dwaine; one daughter Christie (Joseph) Felhofer of Green Bay; two sons Timothy “Tim” Peil of Baileys Harbor and David (Melissa) Peil of West Allis Wi.  5 Grandchildren; Terre (Jake) Luepke of Green Bay, Brady Peil, Avery Peil, Sophia Peil, and Sariah Alyssa Peil all of West Allis, two brothers; Donald (Debbie) Lettie, and Douglas (Marge) Lettie, brothers and sister-in-laws; Sherry Lettie, Dennis (Mary) Peil and Nancy (Clyde) Johnson.  Godchildren; James Johnson, and Devon Lettie; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Helen Lettie; brother; Darrell Lettie, mother and father-in-law Harold and Beverly Peil.

A memorial service is being planned for Saturday June 12th, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7973 State Hwy 57, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00.
