Obituary: John Francis (Jack) Martin

John Francis (Jack) Martin died 90 years young, unexpectedly, on March 15, 2017. He was born and raised in Chicago, but spent most of his life in Appleton. He was in service during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Jack graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, on the GI Bill in 1949. He married Patricia (Pat/Patsy) Sorgani on Sept. 2, 1950. Together they had six children, of whom he was most proud. They are: Francesca (Bill), Michelle, John (Karen), Marietta (Stephen), Jeannie (Greg), and Tony (Chantal).

After spending many summer weeks in Door County, in 1987, Jack and Patsy and his sailboat The Irish Rover moved to Door County.

He is survived by his wife Pat, married 66 years, his six children and their spouses named above, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his brother Joe and his sister Helen. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Martin, his brother Philip and his sister Therese.

There will be a Memorial Mass at Stella Maris (St. Rosalia’s) Sister Bay on Sat., July 15, 2017 at 11 am, preceded with Visitation at 10 am. A luncheon will follow Mass at St. Rosalia’s Hall. Stella Maris Church (St. Rosalia’s) is located at 600 S. Bay Shore Dr. Sister Bay, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Meadows at Good Samaritan, Scandia Village, 10554 Applewood Dr. Sister Bay WI 54234.
