Obituary: John William Arnold

August 8, 1936 ~ July 14, 2023

John William Arnold, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, died Friday morning, July 14, 2023 at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born August 8, 1936 in Skokie, IL, the son of Urban and Elsa (Wells) Arnold. John graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, IL with the class of 1954. He went on to study business at Loyola University in Chicago, IL where he earned his bachelor’s degree (1958). 

John was united in marriage to Lorene Kay Krause on January 20, 1961 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Skokie where they remained members. They resided in Palatine, IL. John worked in material management for various companies over his 30 year career. He belonged to the Association of Inventory Management. John played in a golf league at Palatine Hills Golf Course in Palatine.

He and Lorene came to love Door County, WI from vacationing there over the years and moved there, full-time, in 2005. Together, they designed and built the house of their dreams in the Town of Egg Harbor and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in Door County over the years. John was a year-round grill master. He liked working in the woods and spending time on the water. John took up gardening in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He was always reading about construction. 

They were blessed with over 57 years of marriage. Lorene preceded him in death on May 7, 2018.

John will be remembered for being “good family guy”. He will be be missed by his children, Steve (Laurie) Arnold of Grayslake, IL, Tim (Jennifer) Arnold of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Sue (Brian) Calvert of Clarkdale, AZ, and Laura (Tony) Temes of West Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Beth and Maddy Arnold, Garrett and Blake Arnold, Nicholas, Anthony, and Thomas Temes, and Scott Arnold; and brother, Dick (Barbara) Arnold of Des Plaines, IL. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Christopher Arnold; and sister, Dolores (Joseph) Conley.

His life will be honored with a private funeral service held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Matthew Rappl officiating. John will be laid to rest beside his wife, Lorene, in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.
