Obituary: Jonathan Brodie Howell

October 2, 1937 ~ April 24, 2023

Jonathan Brodie Howell, age 85 of the Town of Jacksonport, died on Monday, April 24, 2023, surrounded by his family.  He was born on October 2, 1937, to the late John and Elizabeth (Brodie) Howell in Cheltenham, England.  He served England as a Royal Marine.  He travelled the world for two years before settling in Chicago where he met the love of his life Maureen Patricia Golden. 

The couple was united in marriage on May 18, 1968, at Queen of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chicago.  The couple raised their family in the Chicago suburbs.  After many years of vacationing at their TAGH Manor residence in Door County, they made it their permanent home in 2012.  Jonathan was an exceptional gardener, enjoyed following the Stock Market, and welcoming guests into his home.  He was a very kind and generous man.  He will truly be missed.

Jonathan is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen; two children, Patricia Thomason and Paul Howell; son-in-law, Russell; daughter-in-law, Courtney (Soupir); six grandchildren, Christopher, Isabella, Brodie, Clara, Oliver, and Finnegan; sister, Joanna (Julian) Richardson; one brother, Nicholas (Greta) Howell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy (Mark) Tucker, Joan Sabbia, Bill (Nancy) Golden, Mary Ann (Gunter) Alberts, Robert (Mary) Golden.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Howell and Mark Howell; his parents; one brother, Patrick Howell; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Norine Golden; and one brother-in-law, John Sabbia.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Stella Maris –Jacksonport site, with Fr. Robert Oldershaw officiating.  Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery following service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jonathan’s name to Misericordia Home, 6300 N. Ridge Ave, Chicago IL 60660.
