Obituary: Joseph Andrew Syvertsen

Joseph “Joey” Andrew Syvertsen, our shining star, died peacefully on October 15, 2021 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, as a result of COVID-19, at the age of 51.

Joey, our brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and dear friend to all who knew him lived his life in a constant state of joy, love, and optimism with a sprinkling of mischief. He was educated at the St. Francis Children’s Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at St. Coletta School in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where he was Prom King. Joey spent weekends, holidays, and vacations in Milwaukee and Baileys Harbor, the homes of his parents, the late Pat and Jack Syvertsen.

Joe had wonderful working and learning experiences with his friends at Sunshine House in Sturgeon Bay and at Improved Living Services in Green Bay, the home of his beloved Packers.

Regarding his mischief, Joe enjoyed numerous independent, unsanctioned visits to Dunkin Donuts and other local dining establishments, where he charmed his hosts and enjoyed various treats. But Joe’s greatest adventures were on stage, performing many times on the Fourth of July in Baileys Harbor with such notable bands as Loud Mouth, with whom he played the tambourine and other percussion instruments. His most notable performance, however, was with the Beach Boys at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago last summer where he occupied center stage and thrilled the capacity crowd, playing a magnificent air guitar, with his rendition of “Help Me Ronda” and other hits.

Joey loved all of us unconditionally and taught us, more than anyone we knew, that life is a wonder, a collection of beautiful and joyous experiences. Our memories of Joey will enrich us forever.

Joey’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Stella Maris Catholic Parish – Baileys Harbor site at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery in Baileys Harbor.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the start of Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sunshine Resources of Door County or St. Coletta of Wisconsin, Jefferson.
