Obituary: June Marie Czechan

June 5, 1967 ~ May 9, 2023

June Marie Czechan, age 55 of Sturgeon Bay, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 5, 1967, to the late Paul Lee and Beverly Ann (Kovack) Peterson in Sussex, Wisconsin.  She graduated from Gibraltar High School and Wisconsin College of Cosmetology.

June was the best cook in Door County. She worked for nearly 30 years in the restaurant industry, even opening her own restaurant with friend and business partner Lee Ann Krause. Together they operated Hot Tamales in Sturgeon Bay for 18 years before June’s illness forced her to retire. June was also very proud of her time as a Blackjack dealer for the Oneida Casino. She enjoyed spending her free time outside watching the sunrise over Lake Michigan, swimming at Whitefish Bay, relaxing in her hot tub, and hosting parties in her back yard. June was a beautiful person who selflessly supported the loved ones in her life, especially her four beautiful children and granddaughter. Her smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten. 

June is survived by her fiancé, John Dixon; children, Britney Czechan, Lucas Czechan, Samantha Czechan and Elizabeth Zmyslo; and granddaughter, Delilah Perez. She is further survived by dear friends, brothers, sisters, and extended family.  

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steven Peterson.

Private family services were held for June.
