Obituary: Kirby Cornell

Kirby Cornell, also known as Kirby Clyde, passed away in his home on Wednesday April 5th 2017 with his daughter by his side.  He was born on Washington Island in 1935 to Milton and Helen Cornell.  He graduated from Washington Island High School in 1953.  Kirby had many different interests.  He attended a baseball school in Florida as well as Arthur Murray Dance School.  He also attended college in Green Bay for 2 years in business.  He then enlisted in the Army with Lonnie Jorgenson and was in the same unit as Elvis Presley at one time.  He married 1958 Cherry Blossom Queen Karen Goodman in 1959 on the island.  Together, they owned and operated the family business Clover Farm Store.  They were blessed with two beautiful children, Kristin Lynn Cornell Vande Hei and Andrew Thomas Cornell (Louise).
Kirby is survived by his two children, Kristin and Andy, grandchildren Jayme Lynn Gunnlaugson, Steven Gunnlaugson, Ansley Kate Cornell, great grandchildren Alexis Lee and Jaxin Scott, four very close nephews as well as other family members and many many wonderful friends.
Kirby is proceeded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Jacqueline Foss and Bernice Cornell.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday April 13, 2017  at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church on Washington Island.

Following the service, the family would like to invite you to join them for lunch and a celebration of his life at the Middle Bar II, one of his few favorite watering holes.
