Obituary: Leon “Pat” Patrick Zak

April 13, 1945 ~ June 8, 2021

Leon Patrick Zak, 76, of Egg Harbor, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

He was born April 13, 1945 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late Raphael and Jean (Hanson) Zak. He graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1963. Pat worked for various taverns in Sheboygan County before moving back to Door County in 1980. Upon moving back, he was employed as bar manager for Thimbleberry Inn (now Shipwrecked) in Egg Harbor. For over 35 years, he owned and operated Pat’s Painting, where he worked as a painting contractor until his retirement in 2019. On April 23, 1983, Pat and Julie Ann Picard were united in marriage at Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor. He was a member of the Peninsula Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, gardening, and golfing. Pat was a family man and loved the time he had with his family and friends.

Pat will be missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Julie; daughter, Rachael Miettinen; grandchildren, Brandy (Teddy Barbier), Claudia, Desirae, and Darian Patrick Miettinen; mother-in-law, Donna Picard; siblings, Linda (Marcia) Zak and Teddy (Lisa) Zak; siblings-in-law, Mike (Rita) Picard, Vicki (Tim) Hollister, Jeremy (Stacy) Picard, and Bob Maas; as well as several special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raphael Zak; mother, Jean Widder; stepfather, Reuben Widder; father-in-law, Gerald Picard; and sister-in-law, Gerilou Maas.

A memorial service to honor Pat’s life will be held at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
