Obituary: Lois Harriet Rushton

Lois Harriet Rushton, 89, of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, died at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay on Jan. 20, 2018.

Lois is survived by her children Peggy (Rod) Stewart of Hillsdale, Michigan, Cindy Rushton of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Sue (Jim) Iverson of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, and Peter (Carol) Rushton of Crown Point, Indiana; grandchildren Ryan (Kelli) Stewart, Gregory (Alisha) Stewart, Griffin Rushton and Allyson Rushton and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, Walter and Edith Swenson, her brothers Warren Swenson and Donald Swenson, and her sister Carolyn Swenson.

Lois was born on July 23, 1928 in Sister Bay to Walter and Edith Swenson. At the age of 10 she accepted the Lord as her Savior. She graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1946. She attended Bob Jones University, where she studied music, for 2 ½ years. She met the love of her life, Paul Rushton, at Moody Bible Church in Chicago. They were married July 24, 1954. Lois and Paul were loving, faithful and devoted to each other. Together they raised their four children in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, Illinois. Lois was a full-time homemaker, taught piano, volunteered in her children’s schools and was involved in their church in numerous capacities. She faithfully supported her husband, Paul, as he worked for IBM in downtown Chicago for 35 years. Lois and Paul retired in 1989 to Sister Bay, Wisconsin. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Paul died in August, 2015. Together they left a rich legacy of faith and family. Lois was extremely creative, a quick learner, and had a great sense of humor. She loved to read, but her favorite book was the Bible. She spent time every morning reading her Bible and praying for her family and countless others. She was known to say “If I can’t do anything else, I can pray for you.” She and Paul were active and dedicated members of First Baptist Church of Sister Bay, and over the years she served in many ways, but she is most remembered for her beautiful talent of playing the organ.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Sister Bay on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2 pm with a visitation with family beginning at 1 pm.
