Obituary: Lonnie Gilbert Resler

Lonnie Gilbert Resler, 64, of the Town of Gibraltar, passed away suddenly Tuesday evening, May 24, 2016 at Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born September 24, 1951 in Green Bay, the son of Leland Earl Resler and Anna Mae (Howard) Resler. During his early years, Lonnie and his family were members at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Juddville.  He attended school in Fish Creek and eventually enlisted with the United States Navy. He completed the basic training program and was honorably discharged from the Navy after that. On August 16, 1975, Lonnie married Susan Mae DeLair in Baileys Harbor. They shared over 40 years of marriage.

Lonnie worked various jobs throughout his life. He initially worked with the Sturgeon Bay Waste Water Treatment Plant. Lonnie was later employed with Peninsula State Park where he was initially training to become a warden. He was most recently employed with Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor, providing lawn and maintenance care.

He enjoyed riding with the Titans Motorcycle Club. Lonnie was an animal lover and provided care for strays. He had two dogs, Duke, a German shepherd, and Daisy, a cocker spaniel. Lonnie also liked ice fishing in the winter, his favorite spots being by the quarry and up to Little Harbor and in the nook of Horseshoe Bay.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sue; three daughters, Jaime (Tom) Tanck of Sturgeon Bay (daughters, Mekayla, Sophie, Vivienne, Lydia), Crystal (significant other, Marvin Smith) of Bloomington, IL, Shawn (Eric) Fowler of Oceans Springs, MS (daughters, Hannah, Madelyn); sister, Ellen (Willard) McLean of Little Suamico; three brothers, Ken (Pam) of Suamico, David (Debbie) of Sturgeon Bay, Bernard of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside committal service was held Friday, May 27, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Juddville with Lay Minister Gary Scharrig.

A memorial service will be held the following week at 11:30 am, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Frank Kauzlarich officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the memorial service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for Lonnie’s family.
