Obituary: Margaret “Marge” Franke

Margaret “Marge” Franke, 93, of Fish Creek, died at the Good Samaritan Society -Scandia Village in Sister Bay on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

She was born May 27, 1927 in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Adolf and Mary Polzin. Marge graduated from Gibraltar High School and went on to further her education in Minneapolis. She married Arnold Franke September 13, 1947 and the two were blessed with 60 years of marriage.

Marge worked as a telephone operator, motor company employee, and various housekeeping jobs. She enjoyed baking, canning, tending to her flower gardens, and bird watching. She also helped with numerous church activities at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor and volunteered at Bargains Resale Store.

She was a proud wife, mom, and grandmother. She enjoyed every moment she had with her family.

Marge is survived by her children Richard Franke, Dave (Carol) Franke, and Suzie (Greg “Fuzzy”) Sunstrom; grandchildren, Nicole (Scott) Schraigg, Andrew (Erin) Franke, Amy Franke Boes, Kara (Brian) Kroll, Eric (Janna) Sunstrom, and Claire (Tanner) Pinney; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kayla Schraigg, Kaitlyn Kroll, Will and Molly Boes, Will and Mack Sunstrom, and Silas and Jens Pinney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnie Franke; sister, Ella Hendrickson; and brothers, Arnie and Walter Leimbach.

Due to COVID-19, a celebration of Marge’s life will be held in the summer of 2021. She will be laid to rest in Blossomberg Cemetery in Fish Creek.
