Obituary: Margaret “Margy” Lynn (Peterson) Titus Anderson

Margaret “Margy” Lynn (Peterson) Titus Anderson, 78, of the Town of Union, died peacefully in her sleep, early Saturday morning, May 6, 2023 at Pine Crest Village in Sturgeon Bay after a battle with cancer.

A native of Sturgeon Bay, Margy was born to parents Robert “Bob” Eric Peterson and Bernice Ann (Long) Peterson on March 5, 1945 and was a part of the Peterson Builders Incorporated maritime family. She attended school at St. Joseph Parochial School in Sturgeon Bay, then Sturgeon Bay High School, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee. Margy began her own family, marrying David “Dave” Titus of Seattle, WA.

She was employed as an office assistant at Peterson Builders, as a nurse’s aide at Door County Memorial Hospital, and as a barber-stylist at the Yankee Clipper for many years.

Once named “Best Dressed” by the Door County Advocate, Margy was a true fashionista. Whether on a boat, in the barn, donning a Kentucky Derby hat or a Halloween costume, her style never failed to turn a few heads. Margy will be remembered as a lifelong lover of all things nature. She often said that she “loved man not less, but nature more”, finding her peace there. Margy owned a menagerie of animals throughout her life including ten dogs, at least three cats, more than fifty horses, one parrot, two rabbits, two skunks, a hybrid wolf, two mules, and a goat, that we recall. She had a competitive nature winning many ribbons and trophies for racing and showing horses in Wisconsin, Colorado, and Texas. Margy lived a whole other life outside of Door County, enjoying time on the Gulf Coast of Florida, building a mountain-top oasis inside the Gunnison National Forest of Colorado, and building her dream-ranch on the Western slope of the Rocky Mountains, breeding Paint horses and improving the land. She lived by the rule of leaving each place better than she found it. Margy returned to her native Door County and lived out her final years on the Bay of Green Bay, in the Town of Union.

She gave away many laughs throughout her life, sharing her playful spirit, telling jokes and offering her dimpled smile. Margy enjoyed being charitable to those less fortunate than herself. She was high spirited, independent to the last, fun, big-hearted, unique and unforgettable. Margy was indeed one-of-a-kind and will be deeply missed.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her two daughters, Monica Titus (Tracy Johnson) of Sturgeon Bay and Nichole “Nicky” (Marc) Isaksen of Naples, FL and Sturgeon Bay; two grandchildren, Nathan Isaksen of Sturgeon Bay and Alexandra “Lexy” Isaksen of Colorado Springs, CO; four siblings, Fred (Sandy) Peterson II of Sturgeon Bay, Jim Peterson of Athelstane, Cherie (Mike) Pichette of Sturgeon Bay, and Lisa (Dave) Simerson of Carlsville; and other relatives.

Margy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert Peterson and Bernice Peterson (Leon) Laurent; and other relatives.

Honoring her wishes, no services will be held.

Memorial donations may be given in (Margaret’s) name for the Door County Land Trust (P.O. Box 65, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235; www.doorcountylandtrust.org).
