Obituary: Margaret McMullan ‘Mickey’ Quinlan

Margaret Mary McMullan “Mickey” Quinlan, 95, passed away July 19, 2016.

Mickey was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 23, 1920 and resided there while raising her 11 children with Albert F. Quinlan. They began spending summers in Door County in 1950 at the recommendation of the Danis family. The Quinlans soon built a home in Whitefish Bay and “the cottage,” as she called it, was from then on her favorite place. Several of her children and grandchildren now enjoy homes on Cave Point Drive and on Mickey Way.

The drive from Saint Louis in a station wagon with no air conditioning was long and hot, and upon arrival all ran to the beach and into the lake…a tradition that continues today with her many grandchildren.

Margaret “Mickey” Quinlan cherished her long relationships with neighbors and friends in Wisconsin as do her children today. Door County was mom’s “happy place” because of its beauty, people, and the “home base” where she enjoyed her family.

Her summer home was known as a hub for political discussion where she welcomed anyone who would offer an opinion. She did favor her Democratic allies a bit, while appreciating a good debate with her Republican friends.

She was preceded in death by beloved sisters, Grace McMullan Mertz, Marie McMullan Neu Leiendecker; and her husband, Albert Frank Quinlan.

Mickey leaves behind 11 children, Patricia Quinlan Mikkelsen, Margaret M. Quinlan, Albert Frank Quinlan, Jr., Michael J. (Kathryn M. Marciniak) Quinlan, William J. (Jean Hadenfeldt) Quinlan, John J. (Molly McCord) Quinlan, Thomas J. (Suzanne McHale) Quinlan, Mary Grace (Kurt Wagner) Quinlan, Catherine M. Quinlan Siegel, Anna M. Quinlan, and Maria E. (Steve Farber) Quinlan. Her beloved grandchildren are Kate (Paul Rossetto) Mikkelsen, Margaret (Ryan Faulkner) Mikkelsen, Thomas Mikkelsen (Linda Wolf) Wolf, David Siegel, Daniel Siegel, Patricia Quinlan Wagner, Alice Quinlan, Jack Quinlan, Joseph Quinlan, Olivia Quinlan, Gracianna Quinlan Allen, Andrew Quinlan, and Madeline Quinlan. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Stella Mikkelsen Faulkner, Vivienne Mikkelsen Rossetto, and Charles Thomas Mikkelsen Rossetto. She is survived by her brother, William (Virginia) McMullan. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service honoring her life was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016 at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute (4767 Dunn Rd., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235) with Lay Minister Patti Hovde officiating. A private family committal was held at Bayside Cemetery.
