Obituary: Mary M. Tachovsky

Mary M. Tachovsky, 73, of Sturgeon Bay, died March 10 at Door County Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 17, 1946, the daughter of Francis “Frank” and Florence “Roxie” (DesEnfants) Tachovsky. Following her graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1965, Mary helped with her family’s business, the Hotel Roxana at the corner of Third Avenue and Kentucky.  The property, formerly owned by “Shimmel the Grocer,” was purchased in 1929 by Roxie’s parents, Margaret (Schlise) and Ralph “George” DesEnfants. Roxie and her husband, Frank, along with their daughter, Mary, continued operation of the Hotel Roxana until the property sold in 1977.

Mary loved playing bingo at the Senior Center, trips to Oneida to play nickel poker machines, and turning off Packer games if they started falling behind.

Her brother, Joseph, survives along with cousins of the Schlise and DesEnfants families.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Roxie, and brother, Charles.

The memorial gathering that was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 21, has been POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED.

Memorials should be directed to Door County Medical Center Foundation (1843 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).
