Obituary: Maureen Faye (Arndt) Weber

Dec. 26, 1933 – Dec. 3, 2020 

Maureen Faye (Arndt) Weber, 86, of Sturgeon Bay died December 3, 2020, at Anna’s Healthcare CBRF.

Maureen was born on December 26, 1933, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of William J. and Gloris H. (Hayes) Arndt. She attended grade school at Evergreen School, and was a 1951 graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School. As a teen growing up in the 1940s, her career aspirations were to be a foreign news correspondent to engage her interest in travel, people and politics. After attending a year of college at Marquette University for journalism, she instead traveled to California, graduated from Howell Dental Institute in Los Angeles, and started her profession as a dental assistant before returning to Sturgeon Bay.

On June 26, 1954 she married Charles P. Weber at St. Joseph Parish. Together the couple experienced the happiness and responsibilities that come with raising four children: William Weber of Sturgeon Bay, Elizabeth Weber-Maas of Marinette, Susan (Dean) Anschutz of Sturgeon Bay, and Michael (Jill) Weber of Waunakee. Maureen and “Chaunce” were blessed with family, good friends, as well as shared values and shared interests like traveling. After 38 years of marriage, Charles preceded Maureen in death on August 29, 1992.

Even though she continued traveling both nationally and internationally, visiting every continent, most enjoyable to Maureen was precious time spent with her six grandchildren including: Andrew (friend, Mollie Gibson) and Tyler Weber; Nathan (friend, Sahara Tanner) and Elise Anschutz; Brittany (Megan) and Brianna Maas, and Michael and Samantha. Especially delightful to her, was a relationship built most recently with 4-year-old great granddaughter, Alayna, aka “Little Maureen.” She loved watching her grandchildren at their various athletic and musical events, but more importantly she respected each grandchild’s individuality, and provided them with an example of confidence and goodness for their lifetime.

Maureen’s smile and kind nature were experienced by others when she worked part-time at Harmann Studios, when filling in as a dental assistant for Dr. Paulsen DDS, and more recently while volunteering as a greeter at St. Joseph Catholic Church at the 4 p.m. mass. In addition, she loved her weekly card club, and having breakfast with friends at McDonalds or gathering with neighbors at Big Hill Regency where she resided for 16 years. Her social spirit and desire to be there for others—to help, to support, or to provide a Christmas dinner —was devotion guided by her faith.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband and his brother and wife, John and May Weber. She is survived by two nieces Lorry (David) Hazelwood, Dee (William) Tucker and two nephews John (Kathy)Weber, and David (Denise) Weber, along with extended family members both here and in California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is currently planned (pending a safe environment) at the church on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those attending the visitation and/or Mass are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. 

The Mass will be livestreamed at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 via the “Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC” Facebook page. If livestreaming is not possible, the service will be recorded and uploaded to the funeral home Facebook page within a day. Those anticipating viewing the service via Facebook are encouraged to “Like” the funeral home page any day/time prior to the funeral service or go the funeral home Facebook page prior to 12:30 p.m. to receive immediate notification of the (live) broadcast.

Memorials may be given in her name to the St. Joseph Parish community which she loved so dearly.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Door County Medical Center Emergency and Med/Surgical Floor, Unity Hospice, and Anna’s Healthcare for the compassionate care provided to Maureen during the past few months.
