Obituary: Maurice Harold Kurschner

Maurice Harold Kurschner, born Nov. 14, 1931, joyfully went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Nov. 21, 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy (Gehrke) Kurschner, daughter Deborah (Darrell) Denson, son Douglas (Lois) Kurschner, daughter Danelle (Caleb) McCoy, son Marshall (Lorrie) Kurschner, daughter Kimberlee (William) Czaja, and daughter Kara (Craig) Spofford.  He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and sisters Marge Kurschner, Mary Sterczbach, and Marlene (Larry) Fornell, sister-in-law Gloria Kurschner and brother Allan (Judy) Kurschner.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Bergliot Kurschner, and older brother, Byron Kurschner.

Maury’s goal in life was to serve his Lord Jesus first, his adored wife Nancy second, and to minister to everyone he met.  He played the organ for First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay as often as he was able.  He loved to read and study scripture, often spending hours doing so every day.  When he retired, he decided to brush up on his Greek to enable him to dig even deeper into the New Testament.  His days were full, enjoying Nancy’s great cooking, studying, enjoying his children and grandchildren, and watching the antics of his neurotic dog Dexter.

Maury will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  Nancy and the family are so grateful for the wonderful care and compassion shown by his medical care team, especially Dr. Reitz and his splendiferous ties.  The staff at Door County Medical Clinic has ministered to the family in a beautiful way.  We are so grateful.

A memorial service for Maury will be held at First Baptist Church, 610 North 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 11 am, preceded by visitation at 10 am.  A memorial fund has been established in his name.
