Obituary: Maynard J. Hegnet

Maynard J. Hegnet, Jr., 57, of the Town of Clay Banks, Sturgeon Bay, died Sept. 19, 2016 at his home.

He was born September 24, 1958 in Kewaunee, the son of Maynard Sr. and JoAnne (Kinjerski) Hegnet. He graduated from Southern Door High School in 1976. Following high school, he worked for a few years at Bay Ship before eventually working at Therma-Tron-X, Inc. where he was employed as a welder for the last 32 years.

His joy in life was his family. He loved to be at all of his children’s events as they grew up as well as his grandchildren, they were everything to him. You could describe Maynard as laid back, easy going and willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He liked the outdoors, hunting, gardening and canning. But through all this, Maynard loved to race. He started racing enduro, and demolition, more recently and most years, hobby stock and bomber at Thunderhill and some events at Luxemburg racing with his son Joe.

Survivors include his four children, Misty (Jason) Aipperspach of South Carolina, Stacy (Joseph) Krauel of Sturgeon Bay, Joe (Abby) Hegnet of Sturgeon Bay, Genevieve Hegnet of Sturgeon Bay; his mother, JoAnne Hegnet of Forestville, six grandchildren, Jeffery, Kaitlin, Maia, Hailey, Ashley, Nora; siblings, James Hegnet of Forestville, Joanne (Richard) Benzshawel of Forestville, Tina (James) Wunning of Forestville; his dog and best friend, Simon; good friend and neighbor, Gary Casagranda; many dear nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and racing family.

Preceding him in death were his father, Maynard Sr.; brother, Timothy; and sister, Louise Hegnet; and dog, Millie.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday morning, September 23, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay.

Friends may call Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home and on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m.
