OBITUARY: Nancy L. Petersen

Nancy L. Petersen, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, died Dec. 22, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.  She was born May 18, 1932, to Gerrit and Jannette (Fox) DeJonge.

Nancy attended Schurz High School and then graduated as a nurse from Evanston Hospital in Illinois.  On June 19, 1954, she married Robert Petersen in Chicago.  They honeymooned in Sturgeon Bay and enjoyed over 64 years of marriage.  Nancy worked at her parents resort, DeJonge’s on the Bay since the 1950’s.

Nancy had an immense love for her family and was very proud of her two daughters, Barbara, who also became a nurse and Lois, who became a veterinarian. She loved family get-togethers, and always looked forward to dinner with the family after attending church on Sundays.  Nancy will always be remembered as a person with great inner strength who lived with a self-sacrificing love for her family and others.

Survivors include her husband Bob, two daughters, Barbara (David) Sundet of Plymouth, MN and Lois (Doug) Kurschner of Sturgeon Bay; 9 grandchildren: Ashley (Ryan), Kate (Jason), Michael (Kaylee), Alyson (Bill), Elizabeth, Edmon, Caleb, Marta, and Mae; 4 great-grandchildren: Will, Emery, Blakely, and Madeleine; brother David (Marilyn) DeJonge of Sturgeon Bay; sister-in-law Florence Petersen of Seattle, WA; 2 godsons, Gerrit (Lonnie) DeJonge and Bob (Eileen) Poklop; and her dog, Charli.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers-in-law, Hank Studer and Will Petersen.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay with the Rev. Cory Dahl officiating.  Burial will be in the Shiloh Moravian Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service.  Memorials may be directed to the Helping Hand Fund at the First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay.
