Obituary: Norman Stenzel

Norman A. Stenzel was born on May 4, 1929 in Fish Creek, Wisconsin to Henry and Minnie (Zachow) Stenzel. He died December 20, 2015 in Green Bay, Wisconsin with his family at his side. Norman is survived by his wife Ethel of 53 years, a sister Wilma Bettinger of West Bend, WI, children:  Sheila (Ron) Boeck and Timothy Stenzel. Grandchildren: Jacqueline, Sterling, and Kelly Smethurst, Leslie Boeck, Maggie (Scott) Stremkowski, Dr. Natalie Boeck and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Marie (Gordon) Schmidt and Caroline (Ronald) Suehring.

Norman graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1947 and continued working in the family business; The Fish Creek Garage. He also loved the outdoors and spending time with his aunt and uncles on the Stenzel farm. His favorite pastime would find him with a fishing pole in hand. He became a proficient hunter as well and thoroughly enjoyed spending time on Chambers Island.

Norman was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in occupied Germany from 1951 to 1953. Upon his discharge he returned to the Fish Creek Garage, where good customer service was always foremost in their minds. Many a vacationer to Peninsula State Park, as well as the local residents benefited from their service calls. Norman was also a volunteer with the Gibraltar Fire Department and served as their fire chief for several years.

Norman married Ethel Jensen on June 16, 1962 on Washington Island and two children joined their union, Sheila and Timothy. Norman bought out his partner, Arnold Reinhardt in the Fish Creek Garage and operated the business until his retirement in 1991.

A memorial service for Norman will be held May 21, 2016 at the Community Church in Fish Creek at 11:00 o’clock. Visitation will precede at 10:00 A.M. until time of Service. Memorials may be made to Community Church of Fish Creek or a charity of your choice.
