Obituary: Patricia J. Oxenford

Patricia Jo (Amsden) Oxenford was born Dec. 23rd, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa.

I grew up on the Amsden family farm and graduated from Scranton Consolidated School-Scranton, Iowa in 1955. I was a member of Rainbow and was involved in Methodist youth activities. I attended Commercial Extension-School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb. I was employed in Omaha two years as a private secretary. I attended modeling school with doing some modeling on TV and was in Omaha’s Auto Show representing Miss Buick.

I married Charles Oxenford Aug. 3rd 1957 in the Methodist Church in Scranton, Iowa. We lived in Wayne, Nebraska for one year 1957-1958 where Charles received his Bachelor’s degree. Debora Jo was born in 1958.

We moved to Lamar, Colorado and lived there from August 1958 to 1965. Charles taught Business at the Junior College and also worked in a Certified Public Accounting firm.

Cherrill Sue was born in 1961 and Janine Marie in 1963. For the summers of 1959, 1960 and 1961 our family moved to Greeley, Colorado where Charles earned his Master’s Degree.

Our family moved to Carroll, Iowa 1965 to 1967. In 1967 we moved to Shenandoah, Iowa

Charles obtained his C.P.A. certification and bought his own practice. Our country home was built in 1974.

After our retirement we spent half of the time in our second home at Sturgeon Bay, Wis. acquired in 1987. We did extensive traveling to over 50 countries and six continents during our retirement years.

My interests were my family, quilting, knitting, family genealogy, my dogs, cross-country skiing at our country home, going for daily walks with my dogs, working part time at Charles’ office and doing secretarial duties for other businesses, PEO, love of music, my friends and traveling.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Verba Amsden; and a brother-in-law, James Juergens.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Oxenford; sister, Betty Ann Juergens of Carroll, Iowa; daughters, Debora Krayna and husband Kevin of Longmont, Colorado, Cherrill Oxenford of Grinnell, Iowa, and Janine Oxenford of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Sven (Trisha) Adkins of Commerce City, Colorado, Alexis (Micheal LeMieux) Adkins of Denver, Colorado, Tylar (Nick) Gallagher of Belle Plaine, Iowa, Carly (Lee Schneider) Dayton of Grinnell, Iowa, Peter Dayton of Iowa City, Iowa. Adam Oxenford of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Stella Aherns and Stormy Aherns of Council Bluffs, Iowa, 14 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law Rick (Jana) Oxenford of Green Valley, Arizona, Jim (Lynn) Oxenford of Green Valley, Arizona and Jon (Linda) Oxenford of Ankeny, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to People for PAWS of Shenandoah and the Door County Humane Society.

Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in Scranton, Iowa Cemetery.
