Obituary: Peter Bjorn Gunnlaugsson

Peter Bjorn Gunnlaugsson, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home early Friday morning, December 2, 2016 at Door County Medical Center.

He was born November 27, 1925 on Washington Island, one of sixteen children to Bjorn and Clara Sena (Hanson) Gunnlaugsson.

Peter had attended Bay View Lutheran Church with his mother. He was active for many years at the Sunshine House in Sturgeon Bay but had been retired for the past ten years.

Peter loved bowling with his Sunshine House friends and now with his caregivers and roommates.

He is survived by his five sisters, Blanche Jacobson of Sturgeon Bay, Lorraine Kinate of De Pere, Angeline Gauger of Sturgeon Bay, Pauline McFarlin of Sturgeon Bay, Rosalie Gunnlaugsson of Arizona; two brothers, Nathan (Karen) of Plymouth, and Orin of Sturgeon Bay; and many, many, dear nieces and nephews.

Peter was welcomed home by his parents, Bjorn and Clara Gunnlaugsson; and eight siblings, Kenneth, Clayton, Arline Koyan, Clayton Calvin, Stewart, Everett, Murray, and Danny Gunnlaugsson.

Funeral services were  on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with his nephew, Arni Jacobson officiating. Burial will be at Washington Island Cemetery.

“A special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Hick’s Adult Family Group Home in Sturgeon Bay for the kind and compassionate care shown to our brother and uncle. Also thank you for the wonderful care provided by Door County Medical Center showing compassion to Peter in his hours of need; we all appreciated that.”

Memorials may be given in his memory to Sunshine House Foundation or the charity of your choice.

Casperson Funeral Home in Sister Bay is also helping to assist the family with arrangements.
