Obituary: Peter Ernest Brooks

July 19, 1947 ~ May 8, 2021

Peter E. Brooks, 73 years old, of Sister Bay, Wisconsin formerly of Oak Park, Illinois, died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in February of this year.

He was born July 19, 1947 in Bronx, NY, the son of the late Max and Florence (Gelbard) Brooks. Peter graduated from the Bronx High School of Science before pursuing his undergrad and master’s degree at City College of New York. Peter continued his graduate work at University of Illinois, where he met his future wife, Linda. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

On September 16, 1973 he married Linda H. Becker at the home of Linda’s parents in Oak Brook, Illinois. They enjoyed visiting Door County each summer with their kids and were able to realize their dream to move Sister Bay full time in 2015. Retirement allowed Peter to pursue other interests he enjoyed throughout life more intensely in Door County including playing his guitar, banjo and Irish tin whistles with various groups.

As an early adopter of information technology, Peter’s professional life as a computer technology consultant led to employment at Digital Equipment Company, Hewlett Packard, Computer Associates, and MVC consulting to name a few. Peter served as VP and held other various management capacities throughout his tenures.

He served his community of Sister Bay and Door County as a member of the Town of Liberty Grove Technology Committee in Liberty Grove where he assisted with seeking grant funds to improve internet accessibility in Northern Door. Peter also taught adult learning classes at NWTC.

Surviving family include his wife, Linda of Sister Bay, WI; two children, Rani (Mitch) Esposito of Westchester, Illinois, David Brooks of Evanston, Illinois; two grandchildren; Matteo and Asha Esposito; and brother, Gary (Jane Ansbro) Brooks of Panama.

Services are being planned in the future and will be announced when finalized.
