Oct. 21, 1927 – Nov. 6, 2019
Phyllis Jeanette Mack, 92, of Sturgeon Bay died at Door County Medical Center.
She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the daughter of Ward Edwin Pond and Jeanette Mary (Messier) Pond. Phyllis attended Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School and Samuel Slater Junior High School, both in Pawtucket. She graduated from Pawtucket West High School in 1945.
Phyllis met Francis Arthur Mack, who was recently discharged from military service, at a roller rink. They were united in marriage on Aug. 2, 1947, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Central Falls, Rhode Island, and were blessed with more than 45 years of marriage. Frank died March 22, 1993.
Phyllis was initially employed with HMH Religious Manufacturing in Plainville, Massachusetts, where she finished as a supervisor. Her mother had also been employed there, and her brother, Halsey “Bud” Pond, eventually took over the department. Phyllis went to work for Carlton Manufacturing in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the sister company of Royal Electric, for more than nine years. She worked for Flagstaff Company in Seekonk, Massachusetts, as supervisor of accounts payable for 13 years. Phyllis moved to Leadville, Colorado, and lived there for a short time before moving to San Clemente, California. While in California, she worked as an office manager for Cornett’s (store).
In 1993, Phyllis relocated to Sturgeon Bay and worked at Wal-Mart for three years until her retirement in 1996. Phyllis enjoyed getting to know and helping her fellow residents at Bayview Terrace Apartments in Sturgeon Bay. As her health began to decline, she was cared for at Algoma Long Term Care.
Phyllis was a former member of Thompson Methodist Church in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Her family meant everything to her. Phyllis often reflected that she was grateful to have “met a lot of nice people” in her life. She always believed that “everything happens for the better.”
Phyllis’ love will live on in the hearts of her son, Francis “Frank” (fiancée Mary Green) Mack, Jr. of Sturgeon Bay; two grandsons, Eric and Kelly Mack, both of Sturgeon Bay; two great-grandsons, Connor and Korben; brother, Robert Pond of Foster, Rhode Island; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vincent Hannon Sr. of North Providence, Rhode Island, and Margaret Pond of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother, Virginia Hannon and Halsey “Bud” Pond; and sister-in-law, Claire Pond.
Phyllis will be entombed in the columbarium at Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol beside her husband, Frank. At her request, no public services will be held.
“Thank you to the staff of Algoma Long Term Care for your care given to Mom these past few months.”
