Obituary: Richard “Dick” Elroy Leslie Koeske

April 6, 1932 ~ Dec. 12, 2023

Richard “Dick” Elroy Leslie Koeske, aged 91, died on Dec. 12, 2023 in Green Bay.

Born on April 6, 1932 in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late Harvey Koeske & Ruth (Fuller) Koeske.

Dick went to Boys Trade & Technical High School in Milwaukee after which he served two years in the Army during the Korean War as an Auto Repairman. After his service he attended and graduated from the General Motors Institute.

On May 29, 1956, he married Judythe “Judy” Renee Johnson in Milwaukee, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Kym and Sheryl.

While his girls were growing, he enjoyed all sorts of hobbies with his family like boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, traveling and spending summers in Sturgeon Bay at the lake cottage. Dick was always working on something whether it was cars at the barn or woodworking projects in his basement shop. He was blessed with a mechanical aptitude and capable hands.

Dick worked for Chevrolet as a Field Service Representative his entire career. As an avid car collector, the Chevrolet bug bit him hard as Chevys were always his favorite. At one point he had 22 cars in his collection. He loved to tinker on them at his “barn” in Door County. His favorite was his 1932 Chevrolet Cabriolet Convertible but he loved taking his 1965 Chevrolet Corvair out for drives with Judy. The two attended many Chevrolet Car Club events all over the United States.

Retiring at age 54, Dick wintered in Florida with Judy where they went every winter for over 35 years, with the majority of them spent at the trailer park in Bradenton. Dick could often be found in the wood working shop making string instruments or at choir practice with Judy. He believed himself a lucky man to have been retired more years than working.

Dick had a dry sense of humor and quick wit that will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Judy; daughter, Kym Rappert (Steve) of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Sheryl Koeske of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Joshua Richard Lee Collins (Angie) of Woodbury, Minnesota; Cigi Lynn Marie Sutrick (Justin) of Suamico; Riley Margaret Pace of Green Bay; four great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rose Collins, Colton Richard Collins, Brock Walter Collins and Ascher Steven James Sutrick; and brother, Harvey Koeske of Menomonie Falls.

Family gathered privately at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 and then at Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol where Dick will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
