Obituary: Rick Nelson

March 17, 1951~August 15, 2021

Rick, a graduate of the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, New York, worked in the restaurant industry throughout Door County and in New Orleans where he met his best friend, Kathy. He was born March 17, 1951 in Niagara Falls, New York and died from bladder cancer August 15, 2021 in Ellison Bay. Cooking wasn’t Rick’s only passion. He took pride that his gardens were on the Sister Bay Historical Society’s Garden Tour three times and he made numerous friends at the dog park. Rick was a friend to all he came across and a helper to many. He is survived by Kathy and her children Michelle (Jay) and Kirk (Iris) who were his loving family. He is also survived by his son Zachary Nelson and his sisters Sandy (Grant) Badendyke and Brenda Nelson.

A celebration of life for Rick Nelson will be held in the gardens at 11979 Mink River Road, Ellison Bay from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. All are welcome to attend and share memories of Rick.
