Obituary: Rick Ray Peterson

Rick Peterson died on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 with his loving wife Marie at his side after he had a near decade long courageous battle with renal and metastatic cancer. He was 60 years old.

Marie, their son Joseph and Joseph’s wife Megan wish to extend their most sincere thanks to all of the family and friends that have offered their comforting words of support, love and prayers. They would also like to express their gratitude for the expert care Rick received from Unity Hospice, Door County Medical Center, Green Bay Oncology, Mayo Clinic, University of Wisconsin Health Center, Upper Great Lakes – Lake Linden Family Practice, and extend thanks to all of the gracious nurses and physicians that cared for Rick.

Despite having a prolonged health illness, Rick achieved a high level of independence through his nine-year battle with cancer. Rick’s strong will and enthusiasm for life and for his wife Marie, family and friends did not diminish. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and a skillful craftsman and builder. He loved all things with a motor and enjoyed four wheeling, snowmobiling, camping, motorcycle riding, bike riding with his wife Marie by his side and family and friends.

Rick considered himself a machinist by trade and completed education in his early twenties to obtain the schooling necessary for pursuing a career as a machinist. He went on to work as machinist for various companies in different industries, along the way he made parts as a machinist for medical procedures and F-16 airplanes. Rick had an abundance of trade skills, he also worked for a multitude of years as a carpenter and helped build homes. In his free time, Rick found great joy in renovating homes and doing various skilled labor projects. He also frequently volunteered his trade skills and knowledge to help out family with various renovation projects. He was a generous and caring person.

Surviving family include, wife, Marie; son, Joseph (Megan); mother, Marion (Paul); four siblings, Loni (Dennis), Shelli, Scott, Randy (Tana).

Preceding him in death was his father, Theodore “Ted”; and brother, Joby.

Rick was one of a kind, he could really make you laugh! He was a proud father, husband, and family man. He genuinely cared about people. He found great strength and happiness in the successes of the people he cared about. He was loved, is loved and will be missed and remembered.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome. Please bring any stories, photos, or other happy events you wish to share.
